Join Our Team

Hamer & Hamer Solicitors have been part of the Northern Beaches for more than 50 years. Half of our team have been part of our team for 6 years or more. We think that says something about what it is like to work here. We are an established firm with a modern approach to legal services.

We are a small team. We know our clients. We know each other. We work together, ask questions, share ideas and help each other out when things get busy. The work matters too.

Our clients come to us at some pretty significant moments in their lives. Planning for the future, assisting an elderly parent, losing someone they love, buying and selling property, working out what happens next. So yes, doing excellent legal work matters enormously to us. But so does being a good person while you do it.

Whether you are an experienced solicitor, a recent graduate, a law student or a legal support professional, Hamer & Hamer Solicitors offers the opportunity to build a rewarding career in a supportive and collaborative environment.

What is it actually like to work here?

Who are we?

Although it is true that we have a supportive and collaborative culture, every business says that. However support and collaboration is an essential part of our culture which is demonstrated in the following:

  • Half of our team have been with Hamer & Hamer for six years or longer.
  • Our junior lawyers work alongside experienced practitioners and are encouraged to ask questions. Our experienced professionals have the autonomy to get on with what they do well whilst mentoring and sharing their knowledge with our junior team members.
  • We know each other’s clients. We celebrate the wins. We help each other when something is difficult. And we like to have a laugh along the way.
  • We also work together, in our Balgowlah office  which is 5 minutes from Manly beach. We know that isn’t what everyone is looking for, and that’s okay. But we like being together. A lot of the learning, problem solving, mentoring and connection in our firm happens simply because there are other good people around.
  • Some of our senior team members work from home 1-2 days per week. If our team members need flexibility we discuss it and do what works for everyone. If our team members don’t need flexibility we love having them in the office.
  • We want our team to thrive both at work and but more importantly in life outside of work.
  • We are close to the beach so a swim before or after work is encouraged.
  • There is a vibe in our office that matters to us. As we grow, we want to keep that vibe. We play music in our office and share DJ duties amongst those who want to be DJ for the day. Coffee and morning tea on Friday is on the firm.
  • The boss brings his dog Jasper (ridiculously good looking Golden Retriever with nickname Director of Happiness) into the office on days when we do not have many client appointments. If a team member wants to take Jasper out for a walk around the block to have a break or down to North Harbour reserve at lunch that is awesome.

A career that fits your life

We want people to build long-term careers here, not simply fill short-term roles, but we also know that work is only one part of a good life. We want our team to enjoy their work, get satisfaction from helping our clients, keep developing professionally and still have plenty of energy for the people and things that matter outside the office.

If you want to grow professionally, there is plenty of room to do that here. You will have opportunities to work directly with experienced practitioners, develop strong client relationships, build and showcase your technical expertise, take ownership of matters and keep learning through mentoring, internal training and external professional development. And if leadership is something you want, there is room for that too.

Who tends to thrive being part of our team

We don’t think there is one Hamer & Hamer “type” but there are some things that matter to us.

  • You care about your clients and the work you do for them.
  • You take responsibility for your work and take pride in doing it well.
  • You are happy to ask for help when you need it and equally happy to help someone else when they need you.
  • If you are experienced, you don’t mind someone junior appearing beside your desk with a “have you got two minutes?”
  • If you are early career, you are curious, keen to learn and prepared to have a go.
  • You like being part of a small team and understand that, in a small team, everyone contributes to the way the place feels.
  • You treat people well and it helps enormously if you can see the lighter side of life and enjoy a laugh.

Most importantly, we are looking for people who genuinely care about helping our clients and achieving positive outcomes for them.

Current Opportunities

Right now, we are looking for an experienced wills and estates lawyer to join our team.

This is an important hire for us and we are ready for the right person to start as soon as they are available.

We aren’t particularly interested in putting an arbitrary number of years of experience around the role. What matters is that you have reached the point in your career where you are comfortable taking responsibility for your own matters and clients, leading junior lawyers, making good decisions and knowing when you do (and don’t) need to ask for help.

There is plenty of good work here across estate planning, deceased estates and related matters, but we are looking for more than someone to simply take another pile of files. We would love another experienced lawyer in the firm who enjoys being part of a team, doesn’t mind the early career lawyer who appears with a “can I ask a question?” and would like to play a part in continuing to grow our estates and estate planning practice.

If that sounds a little like you, we would really like to meet you. You can apply formally, of course, but if you’re not quite ready to call yourself a job applicant, that’s okay too. Start with a confidential coffee with our director Murray and we can take it from there.

We are always interested in meeting good people too

Whilst our immediate need is for an experienced wills and estates lawyer, we also welcome expressions of interest from fourth or fifth-year law students, paralegals, legal secretaries, and conveyancing and administrative support professionals.

Our approach to recruitment is pretty simple. We like to meet great people before we desperately need them, so even if there isn’t a role advertised that is quite right for you today, we’d still be very happy to hear from you.

Looking? Great. Not looking? Also great.

If there is a role advertised that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

Submit your CV and cover letter to our operations manager Sonia Spatino at:

But perhaps you are already in the legal industry but you are not looking for a new job right now. We would still like to meet you and you don’t need to write a formal cover letter or dust off your CV just yet. Come and have a confidential coffee with Murray and Sonia. Meet us. See our office. Find out a little more about us and tell us a little about you. There might be an opportunity now, there might be one in twelve months. Or we might simply have a good coffee and meet another great person in the legal industry. We are quite happy with any of those outcomes.
